This blurb is after the README.TXT of the freeware penpal zine-on-disk which "ExtraMuros" aka Bill Helem devised to give to shareware distributors at computer swap meets around Melbourne and elsewhere...:-
"MapDot Protocol" with Flag-Cat-Keywords is a subject classification scheme, which uses a subject-sorted penpal list to demonstrate Flagged-Categorized-Keywords;
CONVERSELY,
Penpal Tourist Subject-Sorted Guide is an e-zine, which uses "MapDot Protocol" with Flagged-Categorized-Keywords for focus subjects.
"MapDot Protocol"
- follows the sun, east to west, through eight 45° zones
- then divides each zone into eight blocks south to north (The dividers are: antarctic/arctic circles, 45 degree parallels, tropics, equator. The whole antarctic and arctic are appended as blocks to the "Early Day Zone")
- The blocks are divided into 16 by 16 and so on.. ad lib, in hexadecimal numeration
- These MapDot coordinates (converted from Long-Lat) are interlaced into a "library shelf sequence"
- There are also "Flag-Categorized-Keywords" sequences for Countries, Ethnic/language-groups, HistoricYears, Industries/products/services, JobSkills/Studies.. and more.
For an MapDot Category of 6 characters a MapDot is a slightly trapezoidal rectangle of approx 10.5 min longitude by 5 min latitude. At mapdot-02c575-Melbourne the MapDot is approx 16 km by 10 km.
It is good to attach a Cat from another division after the MapDot-Cat (e.g., mapdot-1437F0-y22-Cebu esp-music of.). This "-y22" denotes an especial cultural aspect. You can mix-and-match in other ways. It is useful to attach the year in history (e.g., mapdot-02C605-8w80-Glenrowan esp-1880).
This project has a touristy and a quirky Aussie slant, yet with an "extramural", open access, philosophy for other viewpoints.
